Organic Farming & Organic Food Delivery Systems In Metropolitan Atlanta
In today’s society organic foods are more important in your diet than ever before. Consumers in communities across the globe are recognizing this fact and organic farming has gained new momentum over the past several years.
In keeping with the theme of this site (it is important that you have sound physical health, a positive mental attitude—and an energetic spirit) it is important that you have a healthy outlook about your future—and part of that outlook includes eating healthy as well.
In the following discussion we will inform you of two developments in the organic food arena that is happening in Atlanta—and is changing lives—for the better.
180-degree Farm
In the Metropolitan Atlanta area organic farming and organic food delivery has had some interesting developments. In Sharpsburg Georgia just south of Atlanta—a non-profit organic farming operation called 180-degree Farm—located off of Georgia Highway 154 continues to thrive.
Local residents Scott & Nicole Tyson began their organic farming as a life-saving method of helping their child eat healthy and thrive without all of the pesticides and other materials that can often be used in mass farming methods.
The organic farm has now been in existence for over 5 years (as of March 2014) and in 2013 gave away over 24,000 pounds of food to churches, food banks and community organizations.
Not bad for Scott and Nicole Tyson whose grand vision set in motion the possibility to make it all happen. By dreaming big and putting in the required effort (they both work the farm year round) they are preparing the ground for a huge harvest—on an annual basis.
The couple has received numerous donations over the years for their visionary work and they recently received a donated unheated greenhouse that they currently use to grow carrots, kale, beets, potatoes and two types of turnips.
Due to the cold winter in Georgia the farm lost 6,000 onions due to frigid temperatures in Metropolitan Atlanta.
The farm now has four fields of production and in the spring will have crops that include garlic, lettuce, arugula, carrots, beets, Kale, broccoli, kohrabi, turnips, tomatoes, potatoes and cabbage.
As the year progresses other crops will also be included in the mix.
The farm has a number of fruit that it offers—as well as honey, pasture raised turkey, pasture-raised and grass fed Katahbados and Sulfolk lamb.
A staple of the farm are chicken and duck eggs from birds that consume a constant diet of grass and bugs, the way nature intended.
A part of the mission and the ministry is for 180-degree Farm to support Coweta counties needy families.
Since the beginning the farm has had volunteers from all across metro Atlanta—and the farm is also involved in the CSA program (Community Supported Agriculture) where participants support local agriculture by investing in (or pre-paying for) a seasonal food subscription!
They also provide a local cancer hospital with 300-350 pounds of fresh, organic food per week. The farm is growing ginger and turmeric—two foods often sought out by cancer patients.
Central to their inspiration to create the organic farm was their son—Mason, who at age 3—in 2006 was diagnosed with abdominal cancer.
The tumor was removed, but the couple would not agree to chemotherapy even though doctors told them there was cancer in his lymph nodes on the left side of his abdomen.
The risk of catastrophic damage to his young body and the risk of a greatly diminished quality of life—from chemotherapy—and perhaps even early death—led to the decision.
Instead they brought Mason home and soon fed him organic foods. That effort led to their proposal to the Coweta County Zoning Commission—and subsequent establishment of the 180-degree Farm—in 2009.
They named it the 180-degree Farm because they felt it was a turn in the right direction. Not only is the organic farm a success, now eight years later—Mason remains cancer-free.
For Scott and Nicole, the organic farm is a mission and a ministry and a way to help others avoid the pesticide, herbicide, hormone and antibiotic-laden commercial foods that they believe contribute to cancer—and a host of other diseases.
The couple has also taught food awareness and nutrition classes, conducted educational workshops and hosted three documentary screenings. If you are in metro Atlanta or you would like to learn more about this innovative organic farm—you can visit www.180degreefarm.org.
Coldlife Organic Food
Another innovative development in the organic arena in the metropolitan Atlanta area (and elsewhere—enter your zip code to see if they serve your area) is the purchasing and delivery of organic food at reasonable rates throughout the metro Atlanta area.
Coldlife provides a number of organic products that can be delivered to your home for a reasonable $4.95 fee. You basically place your order and the order is normally shipped the next day.
They provide a mix of organic fruits, vegetables meats, nuts and other organic goods that you can choose—from the convenience of your home.
The online store is filled with organic items and products that you and your family enjoy every day and you can shop from home and get what you want—when you want it.
You can not only eat better—but save valuable time as well. If you order by 8pm, they will deliver organic and all natural groceries the next day in refrigerated vans—all for a reasonable $4.95 delivery fee.

Final Thoughts on Organic Foods
In today’s society organic foods are more important in your diet than ever before.
Consumers in communities across the globe are recognizing this fact and organic farming has gained new momentum over the past several years.
In keeping with the theme of this site (it is important that you have sound physical health, a positive mental attitude—and an energetic spirit) it is important that you have a healthy outlook about your future—and part of that outlook includes eating healthy as well.
Look for organic farming and organic food delivery systems to increase substantially in the future as more consumers become aware of the benefits and and also become more aware of the disadvantages of traditional foods.
In addition to the obvious benefits of organic food that was presented in this discussion—it is also important that you realize that the organic farm that was started by Scott & Nicole Tyson were started after they faced great adversity—however they decided to not let that adverse situation hold them back.
To the contrary they opened their mind up to what was possible and took decisive action to make their dream come true—and you can do the same—if you have something in mind that you are passionate about and can move mankind forward.
Even though I don't know what led to the creation of Coldlife—the fact is they brought something new and innovative (organic food delivery at a high level of service) to the market that has real potential.
Neither 180-degree Farm or Coldlife—sat around waiting for someone to tell them that it was Okay to create the organic farm—or Okay to get organic food delivered to the doorstep of consumers.
By dreaming big and thinking outside the box—they made their dream come true—and so can you!
